Default engine parts

i just bought a 1988 volvo 740 turbo wagon. everything on the car is good but the engine. they said the turbo is still good also. im having a hard time finding a used engine or any parts such as a block, shortblock or internals. any help would be greatly appreciated. also do any ford vehicles use this same engine ? i have a relative at a ford dealership and could prob get parts cheaper if so. thanks for any help and information

It really depends on how much you want to spend. There are several rebuilt long blocks on ebay for around $900 but I'm sure you could find one in a junk yard that's not in too bad condition. It might take some looking around but I'm sure you'll be able to find one reasonably priced.

I see that you are in Georgia. Atlanta has two Pull-a-Part junk yards ("The best strip joint in town") that have over twenty Volvos as I speak. Unfortunately, few of them have body damage so you have to try and guess what put them there. Still, it's not too hard to do a compression test in the yard. An entire engine is well under $200. The block alone is about $50, as is the head alone. Entire engine includes EVERYTHING that's attached to the engine except for the transmission. That's all the accessories, the intake & exhaust manifolds, injectors, metering, and probably even the starter. I rebuilt a Saab NG900 using less than $100 for the head and block only. The yard makes no pricing distinction for make, model, or age. Quite a deal, my friend.

I'll second that one. I was just at Pull a Part last week and need to stop by there next week too. They have excellent prices and a bunch of Volvo's. Sad thing is I saw a silver 240 there last week that was in better shape then the one I drive.....[:@] Talk about depressing.....
