Engine Stalled - Metallic Grinding Noise
Greetings,
A few days ago while driving my '93 940 Turbo wagon with 205K. I noticed a loud metallic scraping noise coming from the car. It sounded exactly like one would expect if the muffler was dragging. However, looking under the chassis I found nothing. Today I heard the same noise, checked underneath once again and nothing was hanging. I got inside and drove away, heard the 'metal scrape' noise and the car stalled. I am unable to start it, but the engine does turn over. My best guess is a timing belt issue? From research here I also understand that my vehicle has the B230FT engine which is non-interference. It's now at the local tow shop awaiting inspection 'most likely Thursday'. Any educated guesses at what the problem might be? I've had no other mechanical problems/symptoms. Thanks. |
Turns out it was a broken bolt in the tranny/flywheel area that hit and knocked out a sensor in that area. That was the cause of the metal noise. Somehow my timing belt also jumped. :( Glad it's not an interference engine...
