I have a 1986 volvo 240dl and was wondering if an early 90s 740 engine would fit. Would like to know if anybody knows of any performance parts.I was also wondering i heard that it is best to go with volvo oil filters because if not the engine doesn't get oil for the first few seconds because of a valvue?? wondering if this is true or not, please help with any suggestions or ideas. </P>

not sure on the engine swap, but www.ipdusa.com makes great performance parts and use ford oil filters. there cheaper and work better than volvo ones.

 

I have a '91 240 and the only filters i use are wix, they are cheap and are sufficient for what i do and how often i change oil, not sure how much the ford filters are but wix run at about $5

 

Here is, probably by far, much more than you ever wanted to know about oil filters. This guy bought and tested everyone he could find. (By the way, Wix was one of the better quality filters)</P>

The difference between the 2 engines is that the distributor on a 740 engine is cam driven while the one on a 240 is not. You would have to adapt the 740 version and I'm not sure how to do that because we gave up on the project before we got that far</P>
