Default finding the shift lock microswitch

Car: 1991 Volvo 740 Station Wagon (not-Turbo)

Continuation of this thread: https://volvoforums.com/m_91571/tm.htm

So I lookedto find ifit was the shifter assembly anda way to disable it. However on looking more into this stuff, I have a hunch thatit has more to do with the failure of Automatic Shift Lock Microswitch. However my attempts to find the automatic shift lock microswitch haveyielded no results.

I looked at the instructions provided at http://www.ipdusa.com/version.asp?st...&V_ID=7150and even http://volvospeed.com/Repair/Microswitch.phpbut no success.

I opened up the whole cental console but could not find anything remotely similar to the microswitch. I have attached the pictures of my opened up dash board.

Can someone please guide me as to what to do. As per the instructions above it should be on the left side of the shifter assembly but I could not find anything.

The micro switch should be inline with the soleniod mounted in the front part of the shifter.
Maybe someone already removed it.

Default RE: finding the shift lock microswitch

Is that possible to have a car working without the shift lock microswitch? The car was working fine for 2 years and this issue just propped up. If that was the case, where should the shift lock microswitch be plugged into? I am trying to find the location where it should logically exist.

Thank you tech for your response.

It should be inline with one of the wires to the soleniod. If someone removed it then there will be a Butt connector in its place. I forget exactly where the micro switch mounts but it would have to be someplace where the shifter would close it when in park.

Also do you remember if you could hear the soleniod when the car was in gear if you hit the brakes?
If so then it was bypassed. If not then it must be there somewhere.

Also if someone bypasses it then everytime the brakes are hit the soldeniod will move which will burn it out prematurely.

Tech, I can not hear the solenoid when the car is in gear and I hit the brakes. So as per your remarks, the microswitch should still be there.

Any pointers where the microswitch should be?

Should I be checking the relays? When I try to start the car, it seems to suck up all power and I hear a click sound coming from near the fuses and the relays. Could a relay be busted? How do I check for that?

I don't think it runs through a relay. It should come off the brake light switch to the micro switch and soldniod.

Thanks Tech, Can you please post the lower half of this diagram, I want to confirm that part 31/45 is the microswitch.

Also, which software is this? Looks great. Is this something for novice users like me?

That is Volvo's Vadis program they used to use at the Dealer.

The micro switch is attached to #23 also right under #27.

Default V70 shift lock microshift

my 98 V70 shift will lock up once in a while. If I press the overide it will shift fine but the lights, turn signal will not work. so I turn the key off and try again until it does work.
Is that a bad micro switch or something with the brake switch?
Craig
