Default fuel gauge, 1991 940 Turbo?

At what point will the fuel gauge show that fuel has been added to the tank? When I first got the car, it was on empty and the light came on. I refueled. I let that light come on only one other time. Since then, I've only let it get to about 1/8th before I refuel. I noticed once that it took my driving it for about 20 minutes before the indicator would begin to register additional fuel. Last night I refueled and it's still stuck down at 1/8th of a tank although I've driven almost 50 miles since.

This is not normal, apparently the float takes its time. Actually years ago (1989), I had a new 740 which did the same thing and I just lived with it... Short of changing the float, nothing you can do.
