Default fuel pump

Just replaced the in tank and the under the car fuel pump .
Is it normal that the under the car pump runs all the time without stopping?
I noticed it because the new pump is a lot louder than the old one.
Thanks

It usually runs all the time when the car is running.
It runs for a few seconds then turns off if you only have the key on.

Hi, sorry for a lame question related to fuel, where exactly is the fuel filter located on a 91 240 wagon? I searched the forum and I guess everyone but me knows it's location. Is there a replacement stock #- Thanks in advance - Bill

The filter is located under the drivers side.

Tech, thanks for the fast reply, without sounding more foolish but I've been unable to locate the filter. Obviously I am not understanding exactly where to look. I am also ignorant as to where the flame trap can be found. I took two books out of library (service manuals one generic [no help at all] one by Chilton [also little help]) Your patient assistance will keep me from going to a repair shop. Thanks again - Bill

There should be a plate that extends outward from the car by the rear axle on the drivers side that is connected by 3 bolts. The fuel pump and filter is in there. If you do not see that the fuel filter is a cylinder like object about 15cm long on the drivers side that is exposed.

Autozone sells the filter ($16),
also get the fuel check valve ($6) because removing the old one from the filter is .....difficult,
I had to use an impact wrench to break it loose.

you also neednew copper washers.
