Fuel pump issues
Hello everyone! Just replaced the in tank fuel pump on my friends 89 740 wagon. There was an awefull noise coming from the main pump under the car caused, from what I was told, from a weak in tank pump. It was also popping the fuse (#11). Anyway, now that the in tank pump is replaced, the car will start but will soon die after a few seconds like it is still starved for fuel. Sorry for the dumb question but do i need to replace the main pump or am i looking at some other issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

hard to say.
diagnostic steps might include...
1) hooking up a fuel pressure gauge, and bypassing the fuel pump relay to see if there's good fuel pressure when the pumps are running
2) with the relay back in place, hook up a test light to the power leads to the fuel pumps and verifying that they come on for ~ 1 second when the key is first turned, then come on and stay on when the car is started. if the engine is stopped, the fuel pump power should go off about 1 second later.
if it passes both those tests, then I dunno.
