Smile Fuel pump problem?

Hello,
I recently bought a 1993 940 volvo station with 134k miles on it. The check engine light has been on for the last 5k miles. The codes read as followed:

2-3-1 Fuel trim (lambda control) too lean or rich at part load and
4-1-3 EGR temp sensor circuit

I changed the fuel filter but that was not the solution. The fuel pump has been making a loud whinning lately. There was some metal shavings from the fuel filter when I poured out the fuel. The car also recently died when I was in reverse, other than that, it has been driving well.

Question: Do you think I need to replace the fuel pump (the one next to the fuel filter) and will this turn off the check engine light after I reset it? Any advice would be great.

Thanks,

Chad

Welcome to the fun world of "new to you Volvos"!! Be prepared for a handful of issues w/ your car; that's how it usually is w/ older cars. The inline pump under the car can whine for a few different reasons: It's failing and/or the intank pump has failed and the inline pump is straining. Or...it could just be a noisy pump. A bad pump does not set codes however. You need to pickup a manual asap and learn your car. The lambda circuit is the O2 sensor. You'll need to do some testing to track it down BUT reset the OBD code reader immediately. That turns the CEL out. Also, it will let you know if the codes stored are old or new. If they do not come back...they were old and you have no issue.
