Is there a better way to get around the bottom bracket that holds the manifold in?

What are you refering to question wise? Doyou want to remove the bracket or get to something that is behind the bbracket. It looks like it is just two bolts and its out. I dont remember how mine is.....

Did you remove the head yet?

No, the bracket is near impossible to get to with the turbo on and without the bracket stud holding it in place, you could remove/ replace the whole exhaust/turbo assembly in one piece. I was wondering why it's there in the first place and if anyone ever cut the hole open so it could side on and off.

and no this head is coming off tomorrow, I can only play a couple of hours a week, so it's slow going.

I'm currently rocking a 91+ and a 530 and I have no such bracket. Not sure if you need it or not. BUt i'm thinking its not completely necessary.

I think I have that bracket on my 91 745T. I believe it is there to support the weight??

Not that the stock turbos are heavy......

Ok, I'll buy it's for support of the extra weight of the turbo, but it’s minimal support, you can easily bend it. Plus it's bolted to the bottom of the exhaust manifold not the turbo. There doesn't appear to be one on my '95 940 NA.

The problem is this bottom stud forces you to lift the manifold up and clear the bracket before the exhaust has cleared the head studs. With the turbo attached there's no room. You have to separate the turbo then remove the manifold.

Without the bottom bolt, you can just remove the 8 manifold nuts and a down pipe clamp and the whole assembly could just be pushed aside to get the head off. It adds at least and hour to a BHG job but more importantly, since there is now an extra dozen frozen turbo/ exhaust bolts to deal with, it increases the chances of busting a stud somewhere exponentially,

I'm thinking if I open the hole into a U or V, then I could slide the stud on or off as one piece. Then the assembly still has vertical support but it could slip laterally.

The other option would be to remove the stud while I have the manifold out then when I put it back together try to get a bolt up thought the bracket into the manifold.

I’ll bet there’s a TSB on this somewhere, I just don’t know where to look.

I unbolt the bracket off the head/block(the two bolts) from underneath when removing turbo and manifold.

Regards, Andrew.
