Headlight switch on 240--pre '86 vs '86?
I have a 1983 244. A few years back, I replaced the headlight switch with one from IPD. It now works fine for turning on the headlights, but in the off position, the parking lights stay on and drain the battery. So for now, I have to leave the bottom two fuses out when car is parked.
Potential solutions:
1) I can buy a real Volvo 1215170 part from a number of sources, but we're talking in the neighborhood of $70. I have not found a cheap knockoff or used 1215170 anywhere.
2) I haven't tried pulling the switch out, but it would be neat if I could pull off one wire and have the parking lights work only when the headlights are on...assuming it's wired that way. [My car is NOT wired for DRL. I'd be fine with DRL as long as they'd be off when the engine is off] From pictures, it appears there are three lugs on the switch.
3) I can find a cheap or used headlight switch for '86-'93, but I'm wondering if it's compatible.
I will welcome any thoughts the wise people of this forum can offer!

2. Have you tired Voluparts.com in Atlanta? 404-352-3402
it’s worked fine for years, but the switch seems messed up.
So if I pulled off the park wire, I’m guessing the parking lights wouldn’t be on when the headlights are.
Oh, to heck with it. I called my mechanic, they're having a new part shipped to them for something like $80, and they'll put it in along with my oil change.
It's a lot cheaper than a car payment on a newer car! Thanks to the forum folks for your help!
