Default Hi I'm new!

Hey all! I'm new to the forums and I have a quick question. I have an 89 740GL and the bulb failure light is on only when I turn the lights on. I know the relay is fine, because it's only on when I turn the lights on, and I even took the brake light out to see if the light would come on (with the lights off), and sure enough, it came on. So the relay is good.

So there must be a bulb out, right? All of the bulbs work, as far as I know (one taillight is darkened like it's burned out, but it still works). I'm at a loss, so any help would be really great! Thanks in advance!

Do you have 2 different brand of bulbs in there?

If so then that could make the light come on.

They're all Philips bulbs, but the taillight/brake light on the right side is very dark like a burned bulb. It works of course, though.

Also, both turn signals and corner lights in the front are double element bulbs, but the corners only come on with the lights and the turn signals only come on with the signals. I'm not sure if they should be on any other time because they're double element bulbs, but are only using one element.

Also, all bulbs are the proper wattage listed in the owner's manual.

All grounds are good, the contacts are clean, and the light still comes on. Any other suggestions?

The bulb Failure relay might be bad.

Open it up and inspect the connections really good.

How do I get the fuse panel out? I can't reach the relay with the fuse panel tucked in where it is. But would it be bad when it still works with the brake lights, and only comes on when I turn the lights on?

One solder connection could be bad.
You need to remove the cubby and cigar lighter to get to it.
Remove the trim cover around the lighter to access the 2 screws. Then pull the cubby out then reach in and pull the relay out.
