Hissing noise every 5 seconds on Volvo 240
Hey guys, first post here! Really like this place so far.
Hopefully i'm posting in the right area. Anyway, i'm having an issue with my 1993 240 where it's started hissing like it's releasing pressure every 5 seconds for about 1 second. Anyone have any ideas?

Where is the hissing noise coming from? Under the hood? In the passenger compartment?
If it is in the passenger compartment near the center console then the problem may be with the vacuum check valve. All of the vent flaps run off of a vacuum system coming off of the intake manifold. Just off the intake manifold there is a black & white cylinder that contains a check valve to ensure the vent flap controllers have a constant vacuum. When this valve goes bad you can getting a hissing noise coming from the center console when hard acceleration or when you shut the engine off.
