Default Hood Hinge Spring Replacement

Hi Everyone. Have an odd question. The hood hinge spring on my '93 wagon "parts car" was off when I bought the car. When the wagon was just donating parts, the spring off was no biggie.

After donating parts for my '92 wagon, the "parts car" didn't go off to the junk-yard, but somehow became a daily beater--I blame garden gnomes... Anyway, now that I'm opening the hood more to check fluids, etc. the spring being off is bugging me. I've tried various methods to reattach without unbolting anything, winding up with smashed knuckles.

I thought before I started unbolting things (which might not help) I'd ask more knowledgeable minds...

Spring ends are fine, hood is perfectly aligned, spring is just unhooked at the forward end. Truthfully, I can't quite figure out how it got unhooked, but...

Any advice??

Thanks

Default

open the hood as far as it'll go

stick a large screwdriver or pryer under the hook of the spring and stretch it over the upper hinge clip thingy

that worked for me (didn't bother with the smaller spring inside)
