Default How can I tell if my 245 93 has ABS brakes or not

Can anyone tell how I can determine if my 93 245 has ABS brakes or not. I want to purchase Stainless Steel Brake Lines.

the Non-ABS has two lines to each front calipers.
There is a box under the hood where the brake lines pass through.

Wet the street in front of your house, drive down the street about 40 mph and slam on the breaks as soon as you hit the water. If you feel the brake pedal pulsate, you likely have ABS. If car immediatly starts to slide, you probably don't.

On my 850, when I turn the key to the RUN position, without starting the car, my ABS light comes on for 2 seconds, then goes off.

Another way to check is to call your local dealer with the vin and they should be able to tell you.

The test above will work, as will heavy braking on gravel or grass.
There will be an ABS pump/valve in the engine bay, it will have several brake lines coming in and going out of it, plus a moderately thick cable bundle.

Regards, Andrew.

These all will work but the easiest would be to look on your instrument cluster when you turn the key ON. There should be an ABS light which should go off shortly indicating that the system is working properly.

Unless some PO has removed teh warning light to cover up a non functioning ABS system. Ask me how I know!

Regards, Andrew.

If you're unsure, take a picture of your engine bay and post it, we can tell you for sure.

Well, actually ALL 1993 Volvos have ABS standard, only question is whether it's working or not.

Wet road, emergency situation....lol.
Then I spent 8 months on and off with a multimeter finding and fixing faults in the ABS system, little things like bad earths and dodgey power supplies to the system, thanks to a bad stereo installation by the PO. I blame teh missing ABS light on a dealer though......

Regards, Andrew.
