How to Re-new Trailing Arm Bushings
#2
hmmm? are you asking how do you change that bushing?
put the car up on stands. jack up a spring perch a few inches, unbolt the lower shock mount, and put a jack stand under the differential and lower that side so there's no pressure on the spring, then do the other. unbolt the clamps that hold the trailing arms to the differential. unbolt the forward pivot.
now comes the fun part. you need a SERIOUS hydraulic press and a WHOLE lot of bad vocabulary to get the old bushing out of the swing arm.

mostly, sigh, yes. I've not done it myself, but the two mechanics I inflicted the job on both told me they used up monthly allotment of swearing in a few hours
I wouldn't bother with the other ones in the back of a 240 unless there's a specific problem. a bad panhard rod bearing would show up as a clunk if you push the back end from side to side.
wait, 8 more? there's two panhard bushings, and 4 torque arm bushings... what else?

Trailing Arm Bushings: 4
Track Bar Bushings: 2
Other Arm (not sure the name): 4
I may have my names messed up though...

ahhhh. there's bushings where the axles are attached to the trailing arms, those are the two I missed.
track bar is what I called the panhard rod. looking at the volvo parts diagrams, they call it the 'cross stay', hah. it keeps the car from swaying from side to side.
the 'other arm' I've always called the torque arms. volvo calls them 'support stay'

Not fun...but not near the chore of the rear trailing arms. The first one I attempted resulted in a ruined trailing arm! I highly recommend removing the entire arm from the car, using/finding a 20 ton shop press and a fresh can of PB Blaster.

What do you guys think? What could it be?

Could be exhaust (either hangers or bad transmission/motor mounts lowering exhaust), bushings, or even a loose shock. Those are the common culprits. We did have a lady come in with a quiet thump thump thump which turned out to be a rattle snake stuck to the inner sidewall of her tire. He was in bad shape...

try the ATF and Acetone mix. put it in a spray bottle, or even a trigger oiler, carefully labeled.
