I need some direction please 240 wagon
I posted but this is the latest up date on my '92 240 wagon auto matic
I had new starter, new plug wires, new distributer cap, new rotor, new coil, air cleaner is clean. Starts up instantly, idles smoothly, but no power, top speed 10MPH, When I floor it I hear a lite popping from air cleaner not the sort of thing you'd get with a crossed wire or out of time, but a too lean popping. Brings me to the conclusion, either fuel pump or fuel filter. Your thoughts direction? I'm not fond of being a parts changer in the elusive search for faulty part. Help me to pin point. 4bnbad |
Popping through the air cleaner may indicate a burned valve or carbon crud stuck on a valve. Do a compression check, you may have more than one problem. Also pressurizing the cylinders aka leak-down test can tell you more.
Check valve timing, maybe the timing belt jumped or tensioner a bit. Ed |
sTARTS INSTANTLY AND EFFORTLESSLY AND IDLES SMOOTHLY, I'm going for the main fuel filter. Will report back tomorrow night. 4bnbad

if it IS the fuel pump, you usually want to change the filter as well... cheap insurance.

I changed the large canister fuel filter, a 10 minute job that took the best part of the day. Is it necessary to bleed air from injectors?
I started car not clearing it's throat. |
