I,ve come back to old volvos !
Twenty some odd years ago when my wife and were starting out with a couple of old 240s 72--78 then a year later moved up to a couple of 81 240s. we drove these things until we started driving new American cars. Now years later we have a son that just got his first drivers permit and we threatened we were going to make him drive an old 240 for the past 2 years. Well that backfired, as his ski teacher drives a 92 240 so all of a sudden he sees these cars as "cool". We started shopping around and found the same old dealer/ repair shop in rural Maine that still has 200-300 old Volvos and always has 10 or 12 for sale anywhere from $1500--$3000. all with inspection stickers and 14 day plates. the old guy remembered us from years ago and sold us a "93" 240 silver sedan with 207k miles. car has 9+ interior and about a 7 or 8 exterior, very little rust, all surface. amazingly, everything works. Paint is a fit faded but intact. We paid $2200 for it down the road. maybe a bit high but I figured we were also buying a whole lot of experience and a supply of used parts. Anyway we have told our son to drive it around town "ONLY" and maybe it will last another year or so. Just thought I would share. It's funny how life goes in circles. Wish I had a resource like this 20+ years ago. Hi from Maine !

yeah, well, new drivers and all, for sure. we *know* our 240 is solid, we're original owners, have kept it reasonably well maintained. both my kids learned to drive in it, have taken it for road trips all over the western US.
