I've purchased a minimum of 3 sets of taillights on eBay. The price is as low as it gets for new, aftermarket assemblies. For contrast, new genuine Volvo Cibie or Hella assemblies can cost as much as $350 EACH. A less expensive route would be to hit the salvage yards, but frankly, after this many years, jy lamps are typically not that great...with notable exceptions of course. Which side do you need...driver side or passenger?
Oh...welcome to the forum. You could also visit one of our sponsors, http://www.fcpgroton.com and compare their prices to the vendors on eBay. Autolampsplus on eBay is who I've used in the past.

Try Genuine OEM Used Volvo Parts with Lifetime Warranty V70,S60,S80,XC90,850+ for good used parts at a fair price.

I just bought a pair of tail light assemblies on ebay for $160. They are remanf. and are complete with all sockets and bulbs. It doesn't sound like you are looking for the tail light but tring to get a cheap replacement. Go to a salvage yard and see what they want for one.

You can always try a site like this and then directly call the junkyard for information as to the condition of the tail light. I bought one like that and it was in decent shape. I think that I spent around $40 for a used one.

FCP Groton. Cheapest new lights I was able to find. IPD had them listed for 100 each, FCP was 83 bucks or something. Came with everything including installed circuit board, bulbs and holders. Worth the price for a nice clean product, I'm impressed with it.
Only drawback now is I mysteriously have no reverse lights lol.

the real Cibie/Volvo lights are significantly better quality and will last at least twice as long as the 3rd party cheap ones.
on a 240 sedan, when the tail light plastic starts to fail, you'll get water in your trunk in heavy rains. It rains a lot here most winters.
I got an extra year out of my old ones by drilling small holes at the bottom corners of each light section so the water that collected inside could drain out instead of filling up and ending up soaking your carpet, which then gets mildew and nasty. When I finally got new ones, it made the car look so much spiffier.

I did the same thing with the lights on my 262 (small drilled holes). It really is amazing what little touches/cleans/paint makes an older car look really nice. I always try to keep my car looking very clean and replace things that are fadded badly, cracked, broken, and touch up things that need it. I also clean the interior real good and clean the floor matts & carpet. Then I get spots out of the seats and get the dirt out of the dash. People usually give my cars 1/2 the age they are. The age of my wagon was guessed at 2004 the other day.
