Ignition amplifier/ballast resistor 85 760T
I recently replaced my ballast resistor because of loose and broken wires.I put the new resistor on and my car won't crank.
I checked for spark at plug and there isn't one, but there is gas present.I checked the coil and it's working, so it's the Ignition amplifier right?
All other parts on the car that have been replaced(w/ new parts)are;in-tank fuel pump and 'screens', external fuel pump, fuel filter, air mass meter, intake hose, pressure regulator, distrbutor/hall sensor, plugs, wires, air filter, and battery. The fuel pump relay was replaced on the car before I bought it, it's been tested many times and is working.
I've checked all fuses so if I'm not mistaken the only other component of the fuel/ignition sysyem, other than the ignition module, is the E.C.U.(electronic control unit), and from what I've read and been told the equipment to test it cost more than the unit so i suppose it's either trust it or replace it right? 1985 760 Turbo w/ intercooler Engine- B230FT 4cyl. 2.3 litre

RE: Ignition amplifier/ballast resistor 85 760T
instead of replacing parts which is horribly expensive may I recommend Tracy Martin's "How to diagnose automobile electrical systems" It is about $20 and worth it. With any car check for spark , check for gas (at spark plug) and go from there. Tracy's book will show you how to do voltage drop testing. for every electrical sub system on the car needs power, a resistive element (these are the things you are replacing), and a ground return. With out any one, whatever it is will not work. Without testing you will miss a bad or broken wire, or a poor ground. And of course these are the easy things to replace. He will also show you how to check the not so easy. I wish I had this book 40 years ago, it would have saved me a fortune. No relation to the author, just glad I bought it and I am recommending it to everyone. Fixed a friends F150 two weeks ago. He had two things wrong Hall pickup in distrubutor and a bad engine coolant temp sensor. (two hours to diagnose both problems) and we didn't buy anything he didn't need repair cost $17 + $20
