Default Inventory.

Here's a question for the general volvo 240/940 community. What items are good things to have on hand at all times for a volvo 240 or 940? I'm a few bucks short of fcp's discount + free shipping and wondering if there's anything I should buy to get me over that limit. In the past I've bought a few things to get me the free shipping including:

Oil filter (case)
Oil plug washers (copper)
fuel filter
spark plugs

Anything else that I should just have on hand? Items that are when, not if it breaks?

Also, I'm considering a tune up of the 88 245 so if you can think of anything I'm missing, I could get that in order to get the shipping/discount.
Here's what I've got so far:
spark plugs
distributor cap and rotor
O2 sensor

How often do the wires need replaced? And does it matter if I get Bosch instead of Bougicord?

If you haven't done so you could replace all your original fuses with the copper/ceramic. Like metals less likely to form oxide. Many "phantom" like electrical problems can be avoided by replacing the original fuses. Just a thought.

the gaskets to the oil cap on top of the valve cover, and inserts for the flame trap, or the whole unit.

I carry a spare fuel pump relay. And a bit of jumper wire with alligator clips.

yeah, I don't think FCP has that last one stocked. ha.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I ended up getting the bourgicord wires since I have no idea how old my wires are. Should help me sleep at night. Feel free if anyone thinks of anything else. I'll definitely be adding some of this stuff to my next cart.

I would keep a spare engine, trranny, a door, and a drive shaft in your glove compartment.
Seriously though, what everyone else said is good, get that stuff.

To your question, I would go with the Bougicords, nice OEM fit, high quality. They can last a long time too. They recommend every 40,000 or so, but you can milk that easily if you don't drive in harsh conditions, and keep the boots and contacts clean.

yeah, rifle through the fuses at your friendly local auto shop, and only buy the brass or copper ones, not the silver ones. every 10 years or so, its a good idea to just replace every darn fuse in the car (and clean the brass spring contacts) to prevent erratic electric problems.
