Default latest problem/project, fixing wiring to OD solenoid

After examining under car, it appears my linkage for the gear selector has worn/pinched the coating for the wiring to the overdrive linkage. I plan on simply splicing a piece of wire in place of the old. Any tips on this? I'm pretty sure this is the problem as the car intermittently has/loses overdrive. The transmission seems to be in otherwise great shape. The OD on/off indicating arrow is always on, but dims when the button is clicked (and I hear it click in the relay).

Thanks!

I would splice in a short piece of wire. When splicing, I always solder the connections and use heat shrink tubing to insulate the connections. I had to do this on my daughter's 240 cause it had lost some insulation. You can pick up 14 gauge wire and heat shrink tubing at autozone.

When you are done, be prepared to also solder up the connections on the overdrive relay as well since it may also be the cause of the behavior you describe. There is a circuit board inside the relay that over time gets cracked solder joints. Just touch them up and you should be good to go.

I pulled the wire out, cut out the fuseable lead connection and it now works. We'll see if it holds. If the problem becomes intermittent again or comes back full time, I may just replace the wire and get a new solenoid.
