I am looking at buying a 1990 740. It has 233000 miles. THe current owner states that the speedo and odometer does not work and that the motor mount is broken. He stats that the left side of vehicle will shake noticably when braking. He is askiing $1000 is this a good price? THe interior in in good condition. Please give me your opinion.

 

Its not that bad of a price.

We have 2 cars like this that come to the shop I work in one has 995,000 miles. The other has about 590,000 miles on it.

They will last a long time if taken care of.

 

Have them checked by a trusted mechanic before buying. If you do buy and you can't determine when fluids were last changed I would do an oil change, flush & fill radiator, change transmission fluid, etc. Shaking could be a combo of broken motor mount and warped rotor on brakes. Get a good estimate on all that will need to be done to make the car road ready and factor this in to what you plan to offer.
