Default Looking at a Volvo have ???'s

I didn't get to see the title (he has one though) but it is a white 4 door late 70s earlier 80s. It has a fuel injected SOHC engine and the round headlights. I beleive it is a 240 but I am not sure. It turns over freely from what I've been told and has a "Sequential" fuel injection system simular to a diesel that is acting up or something. It also has no fire, I didn't say anything to the seller but I beleive its the coil. He wants it out of his backyard by 6 months and wants 100 for the car. 4 Speed trans, good interior, paint is ok, very minor rust on trunk but other wise solid car. The only things missing are the headlight surrounds and the trunk latch (i beleive its in the trunk with other parts but there is no trunk key). What am I getting myself into? I have alot of time and knowledge about cars and I am willing to troubleshoot it to get it running or scrap the fuel injection for carbs. When he told me it was either that or scrap yard I couldn't bare to think of that even though I have never owned. But I do like the car and I want to fix it up. What am i getting myself into?

This Volvo looks almost identical to it, its a 244GL. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/189997
Another looks simluar, a 240. Are the drive trains simular, or is there any Volvo sites that provide infinate Volvo knowledge and history?

The old 240's are pretty cool.
If you want more knowledge then I would say go for it you will learn a lot from it.
Buy a manual for the car and go to town.

If worse comes to worse later drop a V-8 into it.

Comes with a manuel, and I have built a chevy small black currently in my truck, but if I give up on this engine a V8 will be going in it. Hey the 240 is RWD correct?

Yes it is RWD.

The haynes or the chilton.

Cool, I am very happy its RWD, I've had alot of FWD's and want something new to me. I'm just worried about the fuel distribution system. I worry that a replacement part will be expensive. The car was said to have ran when parked but they could never get it to start back up. I'm thinking the fuel system needs to be fully cleaned out, and I'll have to go threw the ignition system to find whats holding it back. I can't wait to start working on it.

Cool
They have a cold start valve you might want to look at. for the fuel if it doesn't start after you clean it out.

I got my pictures back, It has a few things that may assist in telling me what model/year it is. It looks like a 240, has a 130 speedo, the engine has "803" on the timing belt cover, coil is on the passenger side. It looks a little ruff but I am willing to bring it back to speed, possibly make it a turbo brick in time.

I found a site that helps "The 2 round headlights were used in 1979 on the 240 station wagon and on earlier 260's. Most models came with 2 rectangular headlights up to 1985. " I thought it was a 240 but could it be a 260 4 door? Hopefully the twin round headlights make it more rare and worth more, that will make me more happyier indeed.

You might be right about it being a 260.
Not sure about the number on the timing cover might just be an engine number or something like that.
I think the engine might be a B-21.

I am now questionable weither or not is a 260's series... A original technical brochure is showing all of the 260s series having a 6 cylinder, and the Volvo I'm looking at has a 4 cylinder. Ah will this mystery ever be solved? heh. The only good thing is that I'm learning alot about Volvos while trying to figure out what I have.

I'm going over there tomorrow, I'll get a vin and try to find out more. I will also try spraying some WD-40 into the intake manifold to see if I can get it to fire up, also going to check the coil... screwdrivers are perfect coil testers, heh. It does have brand new plugs and wires, the previous owner tried to get it to fire with that and no success (this is why I am suspecting coil, or possibly coil wiring/fuse). I think that's the whole reason why the car isn't running, But I will clean the whole fuel system still because of the fact it has been sitting for over 4 years.

I found out it is a 1980 Volvo 244. I wasn't able to inspect anything due to battery being dead ofcorse, I've got it charging right now and I will prob go back sometime next week to check it out. There is some wiring loose and there is a box electrical device (not sure what it is yet) that is mounted to the wiper washer container/pump that also has wires going to the distributor. Prev. owner stated it would get warm while trying to start the car. I unfortunatly found that it has a haynes manuel but I will still study it tonight, and I'm graduating tomorrow... busy busy

Thankyou, I still have no idea what to think about the headlights. I found a station wagon that looks the same as mine in the front and they state that it has "The lights in front are aftermarket bosch worth $300 alone." Link to quote .
