M46 transmission specs

Default M46 transmission specs

Does m46 trany stay the same thoughout the years? I want to put one in my 1991 240 but I don't know if I have to buy a 1991 trany or can I get like an 1986 trany and would it be the same size? Thanks for an help

Sorry i can't answer your question but i was wondering if your related to any of the Gubbins from out of Chicago?

My wife's maiden name is Gubbins.

Well my grandfather who is Thom O'hair the radio DJ (who changed his name from gubbins to ohair for raido) was from Chicago. He later moved west to Oregon and California though.

as far as i know m46 were the same size but in 87 or 88 volvo went to a m47. Which has its own 5th gear unlike the m46 which had a button you pushed for O.Drive. I do have a extra m47 but need some work it pops out of reverse other than that it works great. Hope this helps.

Whoa, I knew Thom O'Hair the last dozen years til he passed away. Whadda character!

this pic is from circa 1997, I believe.

I can't say for sure that there is a relationship but I'd say it's likely ( distant cousins probably).

I've attached a photo of Patrick Gubbins who immigrated to Chicago from Ireland in 1880 with his parents William and Bridget (Creed) Gubbins and younger brother William.

Patrick passed away in 1941.

I've also attached an interesting newspaper article about Patrick.
