My 1986 240 DL stalls in Traffic???? Help!
Hi Volvo Friends.
I have a 1986 240 DL and it has always, since I've owned it(2 years) had starting problems. Mechanics have told me the starter and baterry are fine.
Some days, it drives fine for miles. Then, it stalls in traffic. It turns over, but won't start. Can take minutes to hours to start again???
The mechanic says it's electrical but can't find the exact source.
Any ideas?!? I miss driving my otherwise great Volvo!!!
Thanks!
Miss E.
P.S. A list of suggestions would be great!-E

worst scenario:
ECU or the computer
fuel pump relay.......on the front passenger foot rest behind carpet 50 dollars
intank fuel pump......they have a filter that deteriorates over time 10 dollars or 50 all
but I think either they work or they don't....you got the outer pump and inside tank one.
FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR GOING BAD.... 50 bucks...or 10 at a junk yard
other:
old fuel filter......insanely old probably, cheap but a pain to replace....8 bucks

My 1986 240 runs great all winter. I am in Fla. Car does not start over 90 degrees. I hope its the crank sensor. However, their appears to be wear in the engine compartment wire harness. I asked volvo dealer cost of harness. It was insane. I only need the part that has grey plug end in center of engine compartment traveling to passenger side. Does anyone know how to aquire that section without being taken to the cleaners ? I can also use the small harness for the rear liftgate under the drivers side hinge on a wagon. I hope someone has an easier solution than my thought.....
thanks in advance

Your year doesn't have a crank position sensor. Instead the timing is off of the hall sensor on the distributor. If you need wiring harness or just parts for the wiring harness, check out Dave Bartons web site: DaveBarton.com. It has all kinds of wiring harness replacement parts.

Ain't cheap, but cheaper than a harness.....
