New 245 owner!
Hey all,
Harrison here, new to the forum, but I've lurked awhile and even after searching, I haven't found much geared to my particular questions so I figured I'd join and get to know some folks!
Picked this booger up near Madison, rode my bike out to see it and all I could say was oh boy... The PO had done some "work" on it which included retrofitting a carb on it, putting a lamp switch in place of what I'm told is the electronic overdrive, and removing the lift gate locking mechanism. None of which I have original parts for. The thing drives...but there's gas leaking from the carb, it won't even rev over 3000rpm. So what I have now is a dual Weber intake manifold on its way from Sweden and some manuals. Yay.
Tried to load a picture to no avail though...halp....

I hope he replaced the fuel pumps with something low pressure, as the stock fuel pumps for an LH injected volvo are designed to pump at least 44 PSI, which will blow the float valve out of most carbs. if its an older 70's model with CIS-E (K-Jet) injection, then the fuel pressure is even higher, around 60PSI or more.
anyways, that all sounds rather hacked up, I'd be running away scared.

Right on man. So I've had her for awhile now... M46 trans is hard to shift into gear after running for awhile. I'm thinking fluid? Shifts fine when its off. Thinking I may also need a new clutch or clutch cable. I'm not sure how adjustable it is, but the but is backed out pretty far and the pedal needs to be depressed all the way to not grind gears, yet it engages almost at the top...
Still running decently with the carb that's on it so its not exactly priority but will be addressed soon.
Also, can Virgo wheels be straightened?

Welcome, Harrison. That M46 is as bulletproof as they come; Volvo recommended Type F or G ATF as it's fluid. It can be hard to find in some areas. Your shifting problems sound like my car awhile back; a really worn and warped clutch pressure plate and an extremely worn throughout bearing. A new clutch and TO bearing fixed that. BTW, the Laycock type J electric overdrive unit shares the fluid from the transmission; hence the ATF fluid as the lubricant .
