Default New Alt and Battery. Battery light glows with any accy.

Hi Everyone. 1993 245 parts car turned into daily driver. When I got the car, the alternator and battery were on their last legs so in the cold snap when the battery light started glowing and dash gauge barely got off the red.. time to replace. New battery, new alternator, new belts - correctly adjusted. No accessory on, no light.. Dash gauge happy. As soon as any accessory gets turned on, the light glows faintly..turn two on (like driving on a cold night) and light glows fairly visibly.

I'm thinking I have something gunked up - Ground or connection. Because it's accessory related, I was thinking in the cabin somewhere. Is that a good guess?

Considering its cold here, and I don't have a heated work area, I was hoping to get some advice where to look first. If I have to clean everyone now, I will, but I was hoping I could find the guilty one and put cleaning the rest off till a bit warmer weather.

I know there's a large common ground under the console. Any others I should check? Is there a dedicated fuse in the fuse box? The writing is gone on the case, and the manual that came with the car is missing pages...

Thanks!

I'd start with cleaning and tightening the battery terminals, then check out the alternator terminal and the ground strap to body connection. Also inspect the cabling. any signs of heat damage (bubbled insulation etc). You may want to measure the resistance from the alternator to the battery.

What is the voltage at the battery with the car idling at around 1000 rpm.

does the alternator light come on with the ignition key before you start the motor? if it does NOT come on, then the D+ wire isn't hooked up correctly.

Default Reduced engine performance 05 s80 And battery warning light

Hello everyone, I have a 2005 s80 t6. I recently had the alternator and battery replaced after it suddenly died on me prior to doing so. It's been driving great and starts up every time. But the battery light was still on and earlier today while driving, the car seemingly wasn't getting any power upon acceleration and the screen read reduced engine performance. I coasted to the side of the road, cut the car off for a few minutes and started her back up. The battery light stayed on but the car drove normal as if nothing happened. Any tips on what to do?

umyeah.... this is the 240/740/940 forum. you probably want the S80 forum.

but, um... did anyone check that the alternator is charging the battery? takes 10 seconds with a digital voltmeter.
