My sister purchased a 740gl and she is having some issues. Aside from a dead battery the car simply will not start. She has had countless mechanics look at it and from what I've seen they've replaced the dist cap/rotor, spark plugs, wires, belts, hoses, batter cables, and oil sensor. I am afraid she is not mechanically inclined and she is being taken advantage of at the dealers. Anyhow she is 1500 miles away in michigan so I can only currently offer advice. I did look at the car briefly during a trip up there and I replaced all the grounds ( I thought it was an ignition issue) But now I believe it to be a fueling issue. Is there a simple way to test these to ensure the fuel filter is not plugged? and that the fuel pump is working correctly. Where is the fuel pump located for these cars? in the gas tank? Can anyone recommend a good parts dealer?
The engine turns over but refuses to fire.
I have never owned a volvo myself but currently I have a classic 900 saab so I can appreciate the swedish engineering.
Thanks in advance

how badly does she need the car, and how much money? i ask because those replacments are tall orders for mechs to charge. tell her to look to forums and hold off the going to mechs, it's probably a simple fix...we'll try tpo help.
try replacing the rpm sensor, check all connectors, and check timing.
