Default no brake lights!

hey, my number 7 fuse (brake lights, abs, shift lock) keeps popping everytime i step on the brake pedal. any help? i put a brake switch from pick and pull in it a while ago and that fixed it. then i put a new lift gate harness from ipd in, and when i turned on the rear defroster switch it made this crazy nose from under the dash and the switch wouldnt turn off and it killed the brake lights. and like i said, everytime i step on the brakes it pops the fuse

thanks, 93 245

Well, if it worked until you replaced the hinge harness, I'd have to say revisit your connections there...sounds as if you may have a wrong connection or a short.

Also check the bulb failure relay.
That big red can under the dash left of the brake pedal.
It does sound like a dead short.

ok, so i went and got a whole bunch of new relays today, i did the bulb failure, and the blue one by the brake pedal with the little speaker, (im guess the door dinger?) and the shift lock relay. still popped the fuse. i put a 15 amp fuse in place of the 8 amp to see what that would do, brake lights, shift lock.. worked. shut the car off, tried again, didnt work. i put an 8 amp back in then i was leaving where i was at and the shift lock was not holding me in place, so it worked, but on and off. then my buddy that was following calls me and said "dude the brakes lights were just working at that light, step on them again" i did and they didnt work. short? start at the lift gate? im pretty sure all my connections were good but ill double check. what else do you guys think? and as always, thank you for your help, T
