Default Overdive Fluid Change

My Chilton book indicates that you need a special tool to remove the filter in the overdrive so that you can change it or clean. What has been your experience here and can it be done without the specialized tools? ALso do you pull the solenoid to blow out the holes with air? Thanks Mike

What overdrive? The AW7xL has a locking solenoid to give better mileage in 4th but I'm not sure it comes on US turbos nor does that qualify as a overdrive. It's pain to get to and only cleaned if busted,

Default What am I missing here?

This is an 85 240DL, NON-turbo, 4 speed manual with the button on the stick that when used shows a 5th on the dash. It's a separete unit from the transmission and there is a solenoid attached to it with two wires. It requires a wrench to remove and in my Chiltons it has pics showing removal of the inspection plate (4 bolts) to drain the fluid and has a process for cleaning the screen and replacing said filter. This is not an automatic, sorry for the confusion.
