Default pesky abs light

Ok,I am working out the bugs of my new 240, when i first got the car last week the abs light would occasionally come on and go off as I drove. Now that I cured the light bulb out problem.( wich was a different wattage bulb in the brake system) The abs light comes on after start and will not go out. What are the common causes? where do I start first? sensors on wheels? relays? pump? ignore the light and keep on motoring? (like thats an option!) by the way when I bought the car the tires were so slick with armor all I wondered if they somehow got overspray on the sensors and gummed them up?

I am going to assume the 240 ABS system is same as the 740's of the same years.
Does the light come on only AFTER the car starts moving, after you start the engine or as soon as you turn the key?
If it is after you start moving, it is likely a pump or sensor issue (self test function briefly activates ABS pump as car moves off and checks for signals from wheel sensors. If it receives faulty signals or a bad test, it will disable ABS system), if after you start engine but before moving off it is the self test mode picking up a fault in ABS pump/computer.
If it is as soon as you turn the key, but before start, it is a power supply, earth issue to either ABS pump or computer. (self test function when car is first powered up checks basic power supplies and ability of ABS computer to talk to and receive info from ABS compuetr and sensors).

Regards, Andrew.

Default abs light

key on light on start the car and sometimes it goes out sometimes it dont!
start driving and feel the test pulse at about 5 miles an hour, drive for a while lihjt comes on sometimes stays on sometimes goes out? I like stuff that breaks and can be fixed easily...I guess I have to clean the pickups at the calipers. anyone have a picture of the pickup sensors?

You need to grab a multimeter at this point and start diagnostics.
I only have the 740 Greenbook diagnostics, it would be well worth your time to track down teh greenbook for your car, as there are a multitude of faults that can be very easily tracked down with the greenbook.
The cost of teh book wil be won back by all the parts you won't be buying trying to fix teh problem!

Regards, Andrew.
