Default PSP on my 240 - question about pressure fitting 0-ring

I installed a rebuilt saginaw pump to replace the original on my 240. It came with a small o-ring with instructions to install it on the pressure fitting. I'm unclear what this means - does it go under the metal flange fitting on top of the pump? Thanks for any help.

Just to finish this up for others who might do a search and find this thread. As far as I can tell, some of the compression fittings are metal on metal, and do not use an o-ring at all.

So, did you get it figured out in the end?

If your car has the remote reservoir it doesn't use the o-ring.If the ps pump has the reservoir attached,it uses the o-ring.

You didn't specify the year model of your car.

Thanks guys.

My car is an '89 240DL wagon - will add this to my sig as I'm sure I'll have more questions.

It does have the remote reservoir, so no o-ring required - thanks, this was the information I needed. The male fitting has enough of a ridge on it that I thought it make take an O-Ring.

I've tried various with and without the O-ring, and several different sizes of o-ring, and get a slight leak no matter what. Using PS fluid instead of AT, so that could be a factor I guess.

Unfortunately, I still get steering judder, apparently at higher temps, even with the new pump, so my basic problem is not solved. Will probably start a new thread on that. Hoses next I guess.
