Default Questions about my fuel pump

Hi everyone. I am having problems with my '82 244 DL. Here's what it is doing. Today i was driving down the road and the car stalled on me. It was hesitant to restart but i did eventually. But about 20 seconds after it started it stalled again. I pulled off onto a side street and tried to start it and it started right up again. I waited and noticed a loud humming/buzzing sound coming from the rear near the fuel tank and it died again. I tried restarting it about a dozen times with the same result every time. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be other than a faulty fuel pump. I'm pretty sure thats it but does anyone have any other ideas. Thanks in advance.

Default RE: Questions about my fuel pump

Check the wires going to the fuel pump, check the relay under the dash see if it is melted.I think it is green.Check fuel relay while Turning the key switch ( clicking sound) . Relay should not behot. I last time i worked ona 240 the wiresgoing to the pump weregrounding out under the body. I replaced the fuel pump and had the same issue. LOL, Yes the pumps do gosometimes. Check fuel pressure.............

I checked the relay and it appears to be working. I disconnected the fuel line coming from the pump to check to see if the pump is working. When i crank the engine to start it nothing comes out but about 2 seconds or so after i stop cranking it it kicks in and plenty of fuel comes out. is this normal or is it malfunctioning?

Do you have the correct fuse on it? when i first got my 240 (it's an 81, so they're close in years!), it died within a mile of the place i bought it from. I called up the guy, and he checked up a few things. Turned out I had the wrong fuel pump fuse and it was an easy and cheap fix! It's something small, but it can make a big impact on your car.

I think it is the right fuse. I checked to make sure it wasn't blown and it isnt. I've been working with it all day and the relay is bad for sure but i'm not sure if that is the entire problem.
