Rear Main Seal- Elring?
I ordered this part from FCP
Volvo 240 Crankshaft Seal- Engine Parts- Volvo Parts I've heard the bad reviews about the Elring Rear main seal since I bought the product. Funny thing is, I opened the box the seal came in and the seal was BROWN? I always thought it would be red/orange. After the trouble of getting the seal out, I didn't want to do it again for a LONG time. I then proceeded to call the dealerships in our area and found one that stocks the rear main seal. Surprisingly, it looks like the exact same Elring seal I received from FCP. Just 35 more dollars. Is Elring making the RMS for Volvo these days? |
sadly, the quality of 'blue box' parts for older volvos has been on the decline. its like they just don't care any more about what they sold 20+ years ago... but I think some dealers stock cheaper parts... did this come in real volvo packaging with the skinny volvo part number label ?
I like to order my Volvo parts from www.tascaparts.com as they have about a 30% discount over MSRP. |

means they are volvo 'factory' parts. whatever that means this week. Volvo really makes very little themselves, mostly the body, interior, and engine. the transmissions are Aisin-Warner (Toyota), the electricals are mostly Bosch, the lighting components mostly Cibie. many climate controls systems are GM based. etc etc.
