Default Rebuilt Calipers

Has anyone found a good source for brake calipers for 240s? The ones that I have been getting and rejecting have the slots that the brake pads fit into too big. This allows the pad to move back and forth as the brake is applied and released.

The reason that the pad slot is too wide is because the caliper has become rusted before getting to the rebuilder. When they sandblasts the surface to knock off the rust it leaves behind dimples where the rust was.

I have bought the rebuild kit when I can get the piston out but I have not always been able to get it out.

I found one online retailer that had new knock off calipers for the rear only. I bought one and it fits and works OK. Now I need one for the front.

Any ideas?

Are new ATE calipers available?

FCP GROTON my friend. They have everything. Loaded, and Unloaded calipers. Lemme link you

Front Calipers

42-52 Dollars for a rebuilt caliper are JUNKYARD prices, and from recent experience FCP won't sell you garbage.

I got mine from pepboys because they were priced well and could get them the next day. BIG MISTAKE! Both Calipers had to be replaced within 3 months. One of them failed the same day it was put on.

Thanks Vile. I have been getting them from FCP Groton. I get almost all my parts from them. This is the only area were I have had an issue. I talked to them about this and they have been good about it. They normally use Beck Arnley for the rebuilt caliper and this time they are going to try another rebuilder.

I've got my fingers crossed that they come in good. But I am asking here to cover my bases just in case.

The caliper will probably arrive tomorrow (Monday), however, I will be traveling on business next week and won't get a look at them until Saturday.

I think one of the problems is that 240s are now, at minimum, over 18 years old and getting used calipers that are in good shape is difficult.

Also, thanks for the tip about Pep Boys. They seem to put price first and quality as an afterthought.

Yes the age is a problem. It's defiantly a mixed blessing.

Let us know how it goes.
