Roof rack vs. Luggage rack?
Hey there!
I found two roof racks on different older wagons at the junkyard and I'm wondering if I could put one of them onto my car. I have an old 240 wagon with no fixtures on the roof for a rack. Up until now I have used an ugly but strong after market roof rack that hooks onto the rain gutters with two galvanized cross bars but I'd like something a little sleeker. I have a few questions
1. Is there a different between a luggage rack and a roof rack that Volvo might have made?
2. Is it a bad idea to put holes in my beautiful car just to put a pretty rack on it when mine does just fine AND is easily removable?
3. Would I be able to put my 80 lb Kayak on the factory issued roof rack that I may or may not get from the junkyard?
4. And lastly, one of the racks at the junkyard is missing the bars that lay along the actual roof of the car. It only has the side and cross bars. The other one has the whole shebang, but the rubber or whatever is that runs between the bars and the roof is all worn away and warped. I'd have to replace it with something. What do you think is my best bet?
Thanks for any advice.
