Default rough ilde

new to volvo. i read about air mass meter causing problems, unplugged it, it ran better. replaced amm, still idles rough. also blows black smoke when you give it alot of gas,and has a strong gas smell. help! ps there is a wire ( 2 wires orange blue/white blue connector) that run in the same harness as amm wire that is unpluged and i cant find where it would plug in.

You are running very rich for some reason.Check the O2 sensor.Also clean the throttle body and idle motor.

ok how and where on the O2 sensor and idle motor. sorry im new at this.

The idle motor is located under the intake manifold.It looks like a cylinder with 2 hoses going to it.It also has a plug going to it.

Im not sure what year or exact type it is.Look on the passenger side the older cars have a green wire for the O2 sensor.Where it plugs in there is a spade connector.It is plastic on one sdie and a rubber boot on the other..Using a Volt meter put the positive lead on the green wire.Then put the other to ground.Once the car is warmed up the voltage should move up and down.From 0 volts to 12 volts.If it doesn't it is bad.
