Service Light - 1992 Volvo 240
I have tried search with no good results, can someone tell me how to turn off cycling 3 minute or so service light?
Check engine light is also on with a dtc 1-1-3, would this keep service light from being able to be shut off? Any info on 1-1-3 would be appreciated. Cleaned and lubed ground at valve cover and lubed contacts of MAF.

the 'service' light is just a mileage timer. on my 92 740, its reset by pressing the recessd button across from the odometer reset for I forget how many seconds, dunno if the 240 has anything like that.
edit: see http://goo.gl/GpXwB for the service ligth reset procedure on 740/940... its probably the same.
for the diagnostic code stuff, see Engine and OBD Diagnostic Codes
1-1-3 is 'fuel trim too lean or rich', meaning the engine is (or was) either getting too much or too little gas. this can be due to air leaks between the manifold and MAF, exhaust manifold air leaks, tired O2 sensor, clogged fuel filter or tired fuel pump or tired fuel pressure regulator causing insufficient or too much fuel pressure, clogged regulator, etc.
first, I'd clear the code per the instructions there, and see if the code returns.
pull the vacuum line on the back of the fuel pressure regulator, and see if its wet with gas, if so, the FPR has failed, and is dumping excess gas into the intake manifold, causes all kinda nasty problems.

is there a rubber plug or hole to the lower left of the speedometer, across from the odometer reset button? remove that rubber plug, turn the ignition on and insert a straightened paper clip or very small phillips screwdriver or similar to push the recessed button for several seconds, release it, ten turn the key off and back on, and start the car, and the light should go out.
edit: *OH*. see this PDF, http://caunter.ca/volvo960/cg14828.pdf and find the section on 240's. its on the BACK of the instrument panel, which you should be able to reach by removing the drivers side 'kick panel' (felt thing above your legs, between the pedals and dashboard...).

Prior to 1990, to reset this light you had to go under the dash or remove the instrument cluster to do it. 1990 models and later, in the lower right corner of the instrument panel is a recessed button that you need to press to reset the light. Use a stiff wire to press the little button in there. It may take a bit of a push to do it. If the button won't press, remove the cluster and there is a little lever on the back of the speedometer that you must flip to reset it.

Just to update thread. Changed fuel filter. Took out universal cat, which was not a oem fit, and replaced with a FCP Bosal cat. System nice and tight to reveal on header exhaust pipe just before cat a leak which was welded and no more check engine light. Son reported that it feels like a new car now. Service light still cycling, but do not care any more. Will find cause someday, could alway pull the bulb.
