Short hub/quick release

Short hub/quick release
Am I able to put any short hub for a quick release. Or am I able to just buy whatever one. For example. NRG makes a short hub for Volvo 240s from 82-91 I have an 81 would it still work. Or could I get a completely different shirt hub that isn’t made for volvo
