Someone to help me on a 1995 940 turbo
Well friends I need your help, I have a 1995 940 turbo, and everything seems to be ok, motor is running smooth, air filter is new, etc etc, but it is making 15MPG, I was considering this wagon to make 22 or so, but its really doing too little so I am considering on selling it since the gas price in my country is around $3.42 per galon.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well remember that the 940 is much heavier than the 850, and also the 940 is 4 cilinders and the 850 5 cilinders, you really cant compare an 850 with a 940.
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/2001c...umn=2&id=12130 (Of course this being an estimate, but as you can see the 940 gives 3 MPG less than the 850) My car gives like 12 MPG in the city, so i dont see why you worry so much.
There's the info, As i said, you wont get the same milage, the 940 will always cost more to fill up, because its heavier and it has less engine so you have to move more pounds.

Change the fuel filter, replace the o-rings on the injectors, replace the air filter, throw a can a See Foam in the gas tank and lastly, take it to a dealer and have them clear the computer. I had a 740 turbo that had the same problem...different engine i realize but that chain of events helped a lot. Same thing worked on my 240 actually. One of the old timer techs at my local dealer once told me that one of the "volvo ghosts" has to do with running any older Volvo engine at top RPMs for prolonged periods of time...i.e. anything other than city driving. The computers get used to running at the rich mixture required for that kind of compression and sort of "forget" to revert back to city driving.
This'll also work for those of us (me) who have VERY heavy feet on our (mine) gas pedals...

See foam (spelling?) is an additive you put into the gas tank. Its purpose is to run through the fuel injectors to burn off any excess carbon build up or other junk that may be hindering the gasoline flow. See Foam burns at a lower temperature and thuss explodes at the injector screen...which will knock just about anything loose that shouldn't be there.
My check engine lights never came on either...well they did on the 240 but that was a completely different problem. Your computer can do all kinds of goofy things without setting off a dash light. For example, the 740 has four oxygin sensors. Three of the four i had on mine were not working properly. The computer knew this but never told me and so when i went in for a routine checkup i was not so pleased to here i had to buy three new O2 sensors.
As far as checking the computer yourself....i don't know. If you have the nessessary equipment, its just a matter of entering in the right code (which i'm sure you can look up on the internet). The guy i always took my 240 to had a small hand held device that printed out what the computer was thinking...i don't know what it was called though.

I have never seen A 740 with 4 O2 sensors. Here in the states they only ever had one.
2 sensors didn't come till the 960.

RE: Someone to help me on a 1995 940 turbo
Ok, this is what I did on the weekend, I went to buy a fuel filter, oil filter, bosch spark plugs and oil, I went to the shop and they made a diagnosis to my car and the result is the following:
The car is doing fine on almost everything, emissions, fuel is not that rich, i am not burning oil or fuel BUT the O2 level at low RPM's is too low and that is what it might making the car so high on consumption.
This next Saturday they will clean the whole intake system and make a full tune up, so hopefully it will jump to normal .
The guy told me the engine is in great shape and looks like the car was never run at high speed so I may have a car for a long miles from now.

sorry...that was supposed to be "the 740 (i had) went through four O2 sensors, three of which the computer never cought." One was just really old and needed to be replaced. The other two went bad in the same week...the mechanic told me i was filling it with bad gas? WTF? at any rate the dealer installed a fourth and the problem was fixed.
