Default Stick shift vibrating in Reverse

'86 240 wagon

My stick shift - on an automatic - chatters or vibrates - hard - in reverse. But not in any forward gear. Does the stick shift need re-aligning with the transmission?
Thanks

Check your center drive shaft bushing and transmission mount.

Thanks TIPSP -
Your observation sent me under to look at the drive shaft supports and I found that the rear trans shifter - the slave to the front shifter - was knocking against the bolts on the first drive shaft four way connect. I just used a couple of crow bars and bent something so it wouldn't do that!

if it was moving, its very likely that the transmission mount is shot. this is effectively the rear engine mount too
