Default Successful online 240 purchases?

Hello all,

I have resolved to buy a 242 in the next five years as a partial restoration candidate and life partner. There are a few options I know I would like, but am pretty open minded as I know the car will promptly be torn apart to be pushed towards an improved stage 0.

I would just like to know where people are having success looking for the more sought after 240's on the internet. I've been following the local ad traders, bringatrailer.com, as well as ebay, but being from the Canada I don't know if there are some secret US websites I should also be watching. Who has been successful finding their dream car through the internet, and where did you finally track it down?

craigslist has found me all my recent cars.

specifically Carmel California, is where ended up finding my last two cars, a 1992 Volvo 740 turbo wagon a couple years ago, and a 1994 Mercedes E320 wagon I got my wife last month...

these cars were both very well kept and well maintained, bodies that were nearly perfect, without any repairs or repaint.

of course, I live about 35 miles from there at the other side of the Monterey Bay.

I've been lucky and found the 3 240s from other forum members on turbobricks.
I think the 740 was bought used from a dealer years ago. I didn't buy it, so I do not know for sure.

+1 to craigslist. some decent deals can be found on that site.

+1 on Craigslist. Ebay seems to be top dollar prices these days. Craigslist is getting that way as well. Any good deals on CL seem to sell in hours. My last 240 I bought on CL for $1000 was only listed for an hour when I spotted it. Went to look at it and bought it all in a time span of 4 hours. If I would have hesitated, it would have been gone by the next day. It was a pretty nice car with just a few minor issues. Well worth the money I spent.

yeah, you need to be patient on CL, keep checking it for updates. For each car I've bought, I've looked at 5-10. There's a lot of overpriced junk, and just plain worn out and trashed cars being pushed. About anything at a dealer or broker is going to be overpriced and overly waxed

Thanks for the input gents, that one area in California on Craigslist in particular seems intriguing. The very day that was post was made, there was a 242 that very nearly met my check list. I think I'll set up an RSS feed of some specific areas on CL and see what luck might bring me. Glad to hear some others are having luck.
