Default Tail lights but no brake lights

Got a new to me 1992 244 with cruise control, srs and abs. On the drive home the abs light came on and it was noticed that none of the 3 brake lights worked. The tail lights work.

I was looking at the brake light switch and noticed that it was not making any contact with the brake pedal. I can put my foot under the brake pedal...pull it towards me, hear a thunk and it will make contact with the plunger ( or whatever it's called) on the brake switch...but still no brake lights. Then when the pedal is depressed and released it ends up back in a position where it does not contact the plunger on the switch...should there not be contact at some point?

Yes, it should make contact, knowing when the brake pedal is depressed, the brake switch depresses and and completes the circuit, allowing the brake lights to activate. Keep in mind, if like my 740, the tail lights and brake lights are separate bulbs, not combined like many US built vehicles.
Those switches do go bad and you might need to replace it. You can pretty easily remove and bench test it first.
Not sure why your abs light would activate? It reads a tone wheel signal and the lights shouldn't have any affect.

All the brake lights are working now. Thanks.

You just had to ask...

The typical 240 issues...water in the tail lights...corroded and blown fuses.

Don't ask about the switch. I got tired of laying on my back underneath there and just buttoned everything back up when i realized they we're working again.

Remember now, I'm the op on the "imma idjit" thread. And apparently nothing has changed.
