In tank fuel pump fixed
Thanks for the help, guys.
I bought a 1987 240 GL Sedan on eBay a month ago. It is the 2nd Volvo 240 I have owned. I had been intending to do something about the in-tank fuel pump which was obviously a problem because of the whining primary fuel pump, but I was unsure of how to do it.
After a thorough browse through your posts, I went ahead and did the job. I was unable to get the pump completely out of the tank, so after getting it up as high as I could, I replaced the hose which was the problem.
I did not have fun removing and relocking the bung nut which holds the pump in place. I still haven't managed to lock it down as securely as I would like.
You guys are very lucky having access to companies that provide you with specialist tools at a good price. It is not possible to get a bung nut wrench here in Brisbane, Australia. I left an email for your company ipdusa.com about sending products to Australia, but received no reply. I'll keep on looking. One day I'll have my own personal bung nut wrench. The missus will be pleased.
Thanks for the great site, guys.
Regards
Alan

Hi Alan,
The bung nut can be tightened using a screw driver and hammer. Just keep moving the tip around the ears on the nut while lightly tapping in the tightening direction. It should seat no problem, at least that's how I did mine and it worked great. Your basking in the heat while I'm freezing to death......just doesn't seem right........

Thanks JetTech
The screw driver and hammer managed to tighten it up to the point where I am comfortable it will not work loose. It is certainly tighter than when I took it off. It just popped off when I belted it once.
The previous owner had mechanics do all his work. I'll have to look very closely at work that has been done, I think.
Thanks again.
