Thermostat Stud on 240 Dl
Does anyone know where i can possibly get a new stud for my thermostat housing. the stud broke off, so now i have silicone plastered around the housing just so i can drive, it seems to be working. But i would rather have the right stud in the head of the engine and not some bolt. Any info would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum Cta2885.
To fix it right, you are going to have to drill out the old screw and re-tap the hole. [You may have to install a heli-coil (a larger thread insert), if the drill 'walks' the hole larger, resulting in not enough thread after tapping.]
If you have one,use a center drill to start the hole before drilling.
Be careful re-tapping the hole, as some of the old screw pieces may bind the process.
As for finding a stud, call around local auto salvage yards.

www.mcmaster.com has it under "fastening and sealing.". The trick is knowing the size. If you have one good stud you can take it to Lowe's and have it measured. Lowe's may have it. I have found fasteners there that I couldn't find elsewhere.
This may be a job for a pro. You do not want to ruin the aluminum head.
