Hi, I've got an 88 740 GLE.

Today when I was driving home, occassionally when braking something inside was making a "Tink-a-Tink-a-Tink-a" noise from the dashboard area.

I'm pretty certain it's exactly the same sound as the seat belt warning... but the seat belt light was definitely not coming on when I was braking.


I tried to recreate the noise with the car sat idling on the driveway, but couldn't do it.

Do 740's use this sound as a warning for things other than seat belts? As it only happened when slowing up to islands, I was wondering if it could be low brake pad warning, and possibly the dash warning light for that is broken? Hope not 'cause we're going to Wales in it Friday!


Any help appreciated.. quite new to Volvo's - was only meant as a temp car but really growing on me!
