Transmission flush information needed
Hi guys,
I was planning on replacing the fluid and filter on my 86, 240 this weekend but then yesterday I read on another forum that the general consensus (even from Volvo) is that it's not a wise move to drop the pan on the AW70 transmission. Now in the post nobody said WHY this wasn't a smart move but it seemed that everyone agreed that a transmission flush was the better way to go.
Well first of all, can someone tell me why you don't want to drop the pan? Also, will the filter pretty much run forever if the fluid is kept in good shape? I pulled the stick on mine and it is a nice red color (that was a relief because I really don't know what kind of maintenance has been done on this car). All in all it seems that the previous owner took pretty good care of it. Even after setting for 4 years, the engine oil looked good, the transmission fluid, as I said, was nice and red, the plugs were still lookinggood (but I replaced them anyway)and the coolant was a nice bright yellowish green.
Well even though the tranny fluid looks good I would like to do a flush on the system. Can someone please give me the procedure on doing this and please be specific. I'm feeling a LOT more comfortable doing my own work after these last two weeks but I'm still a total newbie who is trying to learn.
Thanks a million,
Dave
