Turbo Rims on non turbo
How much change-over would I need to do to put turbo rims on a standard issue 245 (1989, 14 inch wheels)? Would I need to change all of the brake components? Turbo rims look so cool...Dave
Depends on what rims you're talking about. There were a lot of "turbo" rims through the years. 81-85 240's were a hodgepodge of wheels with the 14" Corona being the favorite by 84. Early 760's used the 15" Sirius on the turbos, for 1990 the 16" Hydra was used and continued in 91 on the 940T but the 740T went back to the 15" Draco. As long as you are speaking of rwd wheels, they all fit w/o modification. If you're thinking of the fwd wheels then you generally just need to get wheel spacers to correct the offset. Here's a link to the vast majority of Volvo stock wheels. Find the one you are thinking of and we'll go from there.

Yeah, those are Virgo's. Extremely popular wheels. They were stock on 1980 242GT's and lots of other 240's...they will fit just fine...here's a pic of them powder coated black...a little dusty...
17's

15's

Stock 14's

I don't have any pics of the 15" virgo's mounted, but trust me they will fit with no modifications what so ever. Oh...I do think I have a pic of Virgo's on my GT before I bought it...yeah...

It's hard to go wrong with Virgo's. They look good on every rwd Volvo and, being 15's, tires are quite reasonable! Something to keep in mind when going to a different wheel size is if you want your speedometer to be anywhere near accurate you must choose tire size wisely. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html is a great tool for keeping the diameter of the new tire comparable to o.e.
Keep your eyes on the classifieds on turbobricks. The going price seems to be 200ish plus shipping. I traded a 91 B230FT motor for the black ones but they had been trued and made all pretty. Often times it is cheaper to buy one or two rims at a time from people that sold their car and had an extra wheel laying around.
Yeah I've seen a few on Craiglook (national Craigs search) I'd rather find something nearby where I could avoid shipping charges (and shipping damage). A real find would be spotting a few at my local u pull it yard. but these old bricks are scarce at the local northern yards. Maybe a score when visiting family in southern Ohio. Like something dirty and cheap. D
Virgo is rwd only...the fellow is misinformed...
Nope...they are Dracos. RWD but a slightly different offset than Virgos. Used on the 88, 89 and 91 740T cars. The Draco can be had for cheap as they are less desirable than Virgos. Here's the Draco with center cap on a 91 740T
