Volvo 240 ('91) multiple problems. Respectible reapir shop gave expensive estimate...
This is what I did. The plate provides a path for ATF to move between two holes in the transmission. So from a hint from the brickboard I used a dremmel to cut a channel in my non-functional solenoid, and removed the relay to prevent an accidental short.
