This is what I did. The plate provides a path for ATF to move between two holes in the transmission. So from a hint from the brickboard I used a dremmel to cut a channel in my non-functional solenoid, and removed the relay to prevent an accidental short.

The reason I put the bypass plate on was because the wiring on the solenoid was trash and it was leaking oil. There was no repairing it.
