Default Volvo 240 SE wagon engine?

Hi there!

I'm looking to purchase a 240 Wagon, and have found a 240 SE from 1991 in decent condition. However, I cant figure out what Engine is in it. It says B200 so I would presume that it would be a 2.0 litre, but as far as I can read they stopped making the B200 in the late 80's. I furthermore find it odd that an SE (Special Edition) with GLT trim would be fitted with the smaller engine. The seller is not of much help. Can anyone confirm?

Thank you!

What country are you in? In N. America this would have the 2.3 unless it was privately imported. I believe the 2.0 would have been available in other markets. The SE GLT definitely means it's non US model. The GLT was dropped in the early '80s. Odd because the SE was only in 1991 in the US. You can look at the VIN, the labels all over the car, also the manuals and assorted literature if there is any. Run a Carfax or Autocheck history, that should tell you something.

Thank you! I'm in Denmark, Europe - So It might certainly be a possiblity with a smaller engine. I still do find it somewhat weird that it should be that one since the 2.3 litres are much more common here as well...

In years past Italy got a lot of 2.0 lt engines as their tax code was prohibitive for bigger size motors. I know Volvo among others limited exports there to that size. Probably now this is not the case as EU rules control everything but back when there was some variations. This Volvo may be an Italian market import; not unheard of but rare...

Alright! That is good to know! Is there a large difference in feel when driving? Would I regret not waiting for a model with the larger engine? It's the 5 speed manual gearbox btw.

Make sure that gearbox is good. The M47 is not the most robust and if bad is hard to source and costly to rebuild. Avoid any whining in any gear, and any grinding noises when changing gears, of course...
